White-breasted Nuthatch in Madera Canyon 3-28-2008 |
I like the society of Nuthatches
I like their cheerful chatter and “Yank, Yank”
as they go about their business.
I like their view of the world
as they survey every situation
From every angle—
Theirs is a varying perspective,
and whatever they see they seem to discuss
Amicably among themselves
Until a consensus is reached!
What cheerful little creatures they are
As they climb the tall tree trunks
Or fly to my feeders for seeds,
They always sound happy to me,
And they always look curious.
Yes, I like the society of Nuthatches.
