This weekend is the Great Salt Lake Bird Festival. I am very excited to be participating this year in a couple different ways. First, Greg Miller, of The Big Year fame, with whom I had a ton of fun birding last year at the Midwest Birding Symposium, is coming to lead a couple trips and to be our keynote speaker. I am in charge of The Big Stay at Farmington Bay, a 24-hr bird-a-thon similar to The Big Sit. Pledges for each species will go toward the Great Salt Lake Nature Center at Farmington Bay. If you would like to do a one-time donation, click here! Saturday morning, I will also be team teaching the Bird Study Merit Badge to Boy Scouts. It's gonna be lots of fun! Hope to see you there.
I'm putting this festival on my 'some day' dream list! I teach the book "Refuge" by Terry Tempest Williams in my college writing class, and it's given me a real yen to get out there. Good birding to you this weekend! (And yes, I bet I could set a Birder Murder at the festival...hmmm)
ReplyDeleteMy wife and I are looking forward to the big sit! I've been to Farmington Bay a few times this week to see what surrounding areas we should be scanning to maximize our species count... apparently, that area would be EVERYWHERE! This is gonna be a fun one.
