The Gilbert Water Ranch is a great place to learn the difference between Great Egret and Snowy Egret. When I first started birding, differentiating Snowy Egrets from the other "white" egrets was a challenge. A little study quickly reduces the identity difficulty.
Juvenile or non-breeding adult Snowy Egret A breeding adult would have black legs with yellow feet. |
Your photographs are fascinating.
ReplyDeleteThe lady's name that led your first walk at the Water Ranch might have been Kathe Anderson. She has led mostly Sunday AM walks there for years. One of my first walks there was with her and I've gone on to take several Adventure Birding Trips with her. She's about my age (young! Ha Ha) wears a visor and always has her bird bag slung over her shoulder and gives out treats at the end of the walk. Great Lady! Sound familiar?
