We recently had this male Bobolink in breeding plumage near Middleton, Idaho in Canyon County. This distinct blackbird is not very common in the Boise area, although they are frequently seen in a few locations in Idaho. Bobolinks migrate all the way to South America during our North American winters. Check out more "Cool Facts" about Bobolinks at All About Birds.
Love this bird! I remember the first time I saw one. Took a pic .. took a step .. a pic, a step, it was exciting. At first I wondered if someone's captive bird had escaped. Ran home got out the guide books to ID. Have only seen one since then too distant to photograph. This post brought back wonderful memories. Thanks. Great Shots!
ReplyDeleteThat's a great one for Wildlife Wednesday http://tinyurl.com/2ulmy7v
ReplyDeleteAnd sometimes they even turn up in the UK but not normally in that plumage.
ReplyDeleteI saw my first and only bobolinks last year when I attended the New River Birding and Nature Festival in WV. I immediately fell in love with this bird! I did not know it was in Idaho! How wonderful it is that you got to see one!
