Which birds can we expect in March?

Perhaps a bit over-anxious for the return of spring birds, I pulled up eBird bar charts of bird sightings to look at which bird species I can expect to see returning to my area of Idaho, mine and neighboring counties, in March.  It is pretty exciting! Not as exciting as May, but exciting nonetheless.

Here are most of the birds that should be returning in March:

Cinnamon Teal
Turkey Vulture
Osprey
Black-necked Stilt
American Avocet
Yellowlegs
Long-billed Curlew
Sandhill Cranes
Burrowing Owl
White-throated Swift
Say's Phoebe (already saw one!)
Violet-green Swallow
Northern Rough-winged Swallow
Western Bluebird
Mountain  Bluebird
Vesper Sparrow
Sage Sparrow
Savannah Sparrow
Lincoln's Sparrow
Yellow-headed Blackbirds

  2. @dAwN There is no way like using eBird to leave a legacy to the birds and to other birders!

  3. Robert, it looks like you are off to a great start! Following your lead, I just posted my eBird stats from February on my blog. I have seen all of your expected returning birds, but only a few of them in Idaho. It'll be 3 years since I moved to Sycamore Canyon in April and its been 2 years since I started eBirding this past January. I find it very facisnating to see the movement of bird populations. While I was always somewhat aware of it, now my senses are finely tuned!
