This 60 Minutes story was pretty interesting as it shows further evidence of the genetic link between modern birds and ancient dinosaurs. It was more interesting to me because the paleontologist in the story, Jack Horner, was my Avimor boss's high school science teacher in Montana. He says Mr. Horner was in his first year of teaching at the time and that he oozed passion for science. Charismatic teachers with passion rock! I had several of them. My boss tells me that as high school students they were invited to participate in digs on the weekends with Jack and others. The Dino-chicken side story is also fascinating.
Very interesting. It is amazing to me how much we do not know until we become explorers. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was younger I used to watch a lot of dinosaur documentaries, I was probably as obsessed with dinosaurs as a kid as I am about birds now. Jack Horner was almost always a main character, I think he just loved talking about dinosaurs to people and couldn't say no to any request.
ReplyDeleteIn any case, he's definitely uber-passionate about his work and that stuff rubs off, especially to impressionable young kids with a mind for that stuff anyway.
